Landscapes. Flora and fauna.
In the protected area there is an important flower diversity. In Teuco, Bermejo and Teuquito rivers banks there is a dense scrubland, whose characteristic species are: the “yellow stick”, the “ algarrobo blanco”, the “mora”, the “palo bolilla”, and the “zapallo caspi”.
In the Argentinean National Park System the only one “palo santo” protected sample is located in RN Formosa (Formosa Natural Reserve). Because its strong wood, the “palo santo” suffered a devastating exploitation. In the coastal areas grow dense forests. There are different species, such us the “sauce criollo”, the “palo bobo”, and the “aliso de río”.
A characteristic mammal of the region is the anteater, which is critically endangered. Other specie in the same situation is the “guazuncho” or “corzuela parda”.
The most important birds are the “speaker parrot” (that suffers an important pressure, because it is wanted as a pet), the “charatas”, and the “carpinterito de los cardones”.
Other outstanding specie is the chameleon. The chameleon has zygodactylous toes (fused into opposed bundles of two and three). It has a long, slender, extensile tongue; independently movable bulged eyes; and a prehensile (grasping) tail. Its body is flattened from side to side. Chameleons usually grows between seven and 10 inches.
Other species that inhabit the protected area are the “ yacaré ñato”, the “chajáes”, ducks, herons, bats, and the “ tatú carreta”.
